Triangle Recorder Society

January 2005 Newsletter

Our next playing meeting will be Sunday, January 9, 2:30-5:00 p.m. in Raleigh, at St. Marks United Methodist Church.  From I-40, take the Wade Av. exit, then exit onto I-440 (the beltline) North.  *Exit at Six Forks Rd./North Hills–North.  Pass North Hills Shopping Center on the left, Carroll Middle School on the right; pass the light at Northbrook Dr. and immediately turn left into St. Marks’ parking lot.  From Rt. 70, just past the Crabtree Valley Shopping Center take I-440 North towards Wake Forest and Rocky Mount, and follow the directions from * above.  Come in the black glass doors of the main building, and look for signs. The meeting will be led by Patricia Petersen. Novice players are always welcome!  Doug Young will bring special treats for our growing group of budding recorderists.  Less advanced players should look especially at pp. 4-5 in our anthology. If you need an anthology, call or e-mail Pat, 683-9672, patpetersenATearthlink.net; we have very few copies left.  Meeting fees are $5 for members, $7 for non-members (first time free for newcomers). Should snow or ice necessitate canceling the meeting, we will announce the cancellation on WUNC-FM radio.  Should you have trouble hearing a cancellation announcement or have a question about road conditions (or anything else!), call Cindy at 851-1080.

Christmas at Carol Woods was a delight!  A big THANKS to Nell for arrangements there, to Cindy (and her helper Dave) for setting up a beautiful table while on crutches, and to all those who brought yummy goodies to share.  Several Carol Woods residents stopped by to listen for a while.  If you borrowed music ahead of time but were unable to come, please return it so we will have it for next year.

MARCH WORKSHOP—Grand Tour of Europe!  Our date is not yet firm, but it will likely be the first or 2nd Saturday in March.  Details with February newsletter, and on our website as dates and faculty are confirmed.

CALENDAR of Early Music Events:

TRS Library has a new home!  Our chapter library, catalogued on the TRS website, now lives in Raleigh.  Many thanks to Mike Mendelsohn, who tended it well, and to Philip Stiles, who now houses it.  Check the website, trianglers.homestead.com; if there’s something you’d like to borrow for a while, contact Phil at 782-0588, stileserATaol.com.

LAST CHANCE!!!  RENEW NOW!  Thanks to all you who renewed in December. If you see a red note on your label, you need to send in your renewal TODAY!  Here’s how to read the codes:  N alone: you subscribe to the newsletter; it is followed by your expiration date.  NT: you are on our mailing list temporarily; you need to join or subscribe to keep receiving the newsletter after the indicated date.  The date after ARS tells you when your national membership expires; the TRS date says when your local membership expires.  Although you are welcome at our meetings and other activities even if you are not a member, your dues help support our activities and ensure that you will continue to receive the newsletter.  Renew by sending the form below along with your dues to Krista McKinney before Jan. 10 or give it to her at the playing meeting on Jan. 9, in order to keep your ARS membership current.  A special thanks to Doug Young for keeping the addresses and label codes up to date.  Questions?  Contact Doug at youdougATmindspring.com, 683-9672, or Krista at botanicartATmindspring.com, 247-5174.
